Ranking Miko Uniform

The Shinto Shrine maiden uniform consists of a pair of bright red hakama with either a white or a red nagajuban (under kimono) and a white kimono or haori. The uniform tunic usually has a slash or a gusset at the shoulder to reveal part of the garment beneath. The sleeves are usually often shown as being triangular in shape rather than the normal squared sleeve seen in Japanese clothing. These sleeves also have 14 stiches running near the hem of the sleeve, one for each of the Shinto high gods or kami.
Shinto priests wear the same uniform with the exception of the colors of the stiches on the sleeve and the color of the hamaka, which would be navy blue. For people who work at the Shinto shrines but are not dedicated to the shrine as a Miko or a priest, the uniform tunic is worn but no stitching on the sleeves and with a pair of white hakama.

Imperial Hunter Uniform

This uniform is actually very similar to the Shinto uniforms with the exception of color. The sleeves have a slit or a gusset at the shoulder showing the garment beneath. There are ribbons woven along the hem of a large triangular shaped sleeve. These can be pulled to close the sleeve and let it be used as a pocket or a pouch. Rather than the legs of the pants flowing loosely like a regular pair of hakama, these are gathered at the ankle.

Hakama - $65

Hakama are a type of traditional Japanese clothing. Hakama are tied at the waist and fall approximately to the ankles. Hakama are worn over a kimono or with haori.

There are two basic types of hakama:
divided umanori, divided legs, similar to trousers, literally horse-riding hakama)
undivided andon bakama (, lit., lantern hakama).

Hakama are secured by four straps (himo); two longer himo attached on either side of the front of the garment, and two shorter himo attached on either side of the rear. The rear of the garment has a rigid board-like section, called a koshi-ita , on the men’s hakama. Women’s hakama do not usually have the koshi-ita.

Hakama have seven deep pleats, two on the back and five on the front. The pleats are said to represent the seven virtues of bushido: 1. Gi (duty), 2. Yuuki (courage), 3. Jin (benevolence) 4. Rei (morality), 5. Makoto (truthfulness), 6. Meiyo (honor), 7. Chuugi (loyalty).

Colors available: black, gray, white, navy blue, light blue, olive green, hunter green, brown, mustard, unbleached, plum, dark red, bright red, and pink. Many are traditional colors but some are color matched for different anime and manga. Other fabric is available for custom orders but will be more expensive.

Plus Size Cotton Yukata

A Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton. People wearing yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays, bon-odori festivals, and other summer events. The yukata is also frequently worn after bathing at traditional Japanese inns. Though their use is not limited to after-bath wear, yukata literally means bath(ing) clothes.

Like other forms of traditional Japanese clothing yukata are made with straight seams and wide sleeves. Unlike formal kimono, which are made of silk, yukata are typically made of cotton and are unlined.

Our cotton Yukata are made from 45 inch wide 100% cotton fabric which allows us to make them for larger sizes than are typically available from garments that are imported. Machine wash cold and air dry Sizes range from 2xl – 5xl
